What is SATA Hard Drive?
SATA (or Serial ATA) hard drive, also known as serial port hard disk, has now replaced the traditional PATA (Parallel ATA) hard drives and become the standard mass storage device on PC. The Serial ATA 1.0 specification was established by Serial ATA Committee which was organized by several major hard drive manufacturers (including Intel, APT, Dell, IBM, Seagate and Maxtor), and in 2002, the Serial ATA Committee drafted the Serial ATA 2.0 specification, though no SATA equipment had ever been released by that time.
Serial ATA uses a serial connection – a Serial ATA bus with embedded clock signal, with a stronger error correction capability than that on the older PATA or EIDE hard drive. The biggest difference is that it can check and automatically correct errors not just for the data, but also the command it transfers, which improves the reliability of data transmission greatly. The serial interface of SATA has a simple structure (7 pins) and is also hot-swappable, it brings the advantages of faster and more efficient data transfer between devices.
Besides, a “Differential Signal Amplified System” is used on SATA, which could effectively filter noise from normal signals. And due to its excellent noise filtering capabilities, the SATA system is able to run under a lower voltage (0.5V) than Parallel ATA, which means it can save more power.
